Would be great to have this table added to details:

Symbol	Meaning Example
%d	day as a number (0-31)	01-31
%a abbreviated weekday Mon
%A	unabbreviated weekday	Monday
%m	month (00-12) 00-12
%b abbreviated month Jan
%B	unabbreviated month	January
%y 2-digit year 07
%Y	4-digit year 2007

was obtained from: http://www.statmethods.net/input/dates.html

Thanks so much,
Kendon Bell

If you read the current ?as.Date page, notably when 'format' is mentioned and also later, we do refer the reader to

?strptime and that does not contain a table but an even more extensive list of all the possible format codes.

Did you know about that? If not, do you have a proposal on making it easier to find.

I did not know about ?strptime; in hindsight that is incredibly obvious in the documentation for as.Date. My bad! The ways it could be easier to find are:

1) if as.Date() threw a warning when failing to find a matching format. Something like: "Format is incorrect. See ?strptime."

2) Adding the strptime documentation to the as.Date documentation page directly.
